I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 16th Jane 1868 (5723, 5869 Anglong REG 6.0 JUNES 1864) and to request that you will be good enough to convey my thanks to the Duke of Buckingham and Chandos for having extended my leave of absence from Hongkong on sick certificate for the period of six months from the 13th.
I regret, however, to learn that I shall not be permitted to draw half salary.
